Post Wrath Questions (Spoilers!)
Want to know something about Wrath? Ask here and one of our fabulous Beta testers will try to dig up the answer for you!

Again, if you don't want to know anything about Wrath before it's actually released, I'd advise not visiting this thread. Chances are, there will be a lot of information shared in here.

Thanks to Rogosh, Shardik, Adriyel and Ahndril for contributing!

Ask away folks!

This is to everyone on beta. How is your computer handling the new graphics?
Any differences in performance from Burning Crusade to Lich King?

Mainly to Rogosh, As you know I played a Ret paladin before I made a priest, are the changes to Ret pallies change a bit of the style of play or is it just the same hack and slash?

To those who have a priest (So sorry if there is people who have them on beta and forgot their name I haven't played in awhile so I pretty much remember only the faces that I played with back like Bourne, Ghreldon, Mappy/Mapher and a few others), basically the same question before to Rogosh, only not directed towards one spec but all.

Graphically so far it doesn't seem like too much more of a load...at least in the DK area. For some reason the little green latency/FPS bar is gone from my UI, so I can't tell for sure.

For starters, my framerates have actually improved quite a bit. Albeit, I have no addons what so ever, but all areas I've been in so far (DK Starting zone, Several Places in Northrend, Outland & Azeroth), have all been really smooth. While it looks like the graphics have been turned up a bit in the new areas, and everything has a slightly softer glow to it, the fps is very stable!

How do these death knights work? Is it your own character with all of your own gear?

Post Re: Wrath Questions (Spoilers!)
The mechanics of a DK are interesting.. So far you have two "runes" of each, frost, unholy and blood" that you can expend for different moves... as you do that, using the runes gives you rune power that you can then use for spells.

As for your own character.. no. You create a new character that, according to the intro has died and been "reborn" as a DK Hero above LCH in EPL.

Not too sure of much more, I'm not reading alot about them but rather playing and figuring it out as I go.

You get a ton of gear and end up leaving Ebon Hold at lvl 57 (at the moment, Blues have said that the final quests are not finished yet and they're planning a much more smooth transition out of EH which also implies you'll be 58 and able to transition directly to the Outland). When you leave EH you'll have a full set of blue Death Knight gear and it looks amazing. You'll steal a horse and get your mount almost immediately upon arriving to EH.

The XP for Rogosh was right around 1.2 million if I remember correctly for level 71 so it'll be interesting but one of the first real quests I did gave me over 20k XP as well so it seems to have scaled pretty well.

The greens I got seemed pretty good stat wise though we're at a point that we'll not be taking upgrades for at least a little while so no worries about walking into WoTLK and ditching your T5 or 6 for the first green you find.

All I have for now.. I'm off to work on my DK.

Peg.. no idea about the Ret side of the house. Still trying to figure out the new judgement system and play with holy.

Graphics as Lust and Shard have said are largely the same though it does seem a lot nicer.. maybe they've tweaked it.

One last thing, a Blue on the forums said they're going to change the sign in account name to your e-mail like they have with the beta.. they'll import everything but it looks like they're changing to a log-in that's hooked into their store and everything else.

Wait, say that again? I have 6 accounts in my name, all of which send notices to the same e-mail address. How exactly would that work?

Don't know how it will work.. I'll find the posting and put it here but basically when we set up our Beta acct, they have your account name set to your e-mail address...

There was a post about that in the forums and a Blue said that they were going to transition to that as your sign in account starting with Wrath.

I'll find the posting and link it.

Post Re: Wrath Questions (Spoilers!)
As for DK playstyle, think Arms warrior with some ret play. The runes once used have a cooldown which will make it pretty easy to set up a swing cycle - right now at 56 for a single target, I use frost grip (or w/e it's called), plague strike, blood strike, usually have enough RP for a death coil. Just before plague strike drops off the target, my first blood rune's back up and I can hit another blood strike. You can spam blood strike pretty easily, but it's much more effective when you have diseases on the target (especially with talents). Still early, so kind of hard to tell about other talent synergy (the level 56 spell is basically a plague strike cleave/swipe that diseases multiple targets. For some reason, it's a blood-tree spell though). For weapons, the devs have said that they will strike to make DK's perfectly viable when dual-wielding, but their intent is to make them 1H monsters.

My DK's in the blood tree right now, may switch over to try Unholy. Frost is reputed to be relatively tough to solo, and is probably going to be tuned quite a bit before release. It is, however, currently very effective in group settings.

One interesting thing to note is that nobody has seemed to have cracked the code on a DK tanking build. There are talents in all three trees which seem to provide some added tanking ability, but they're for the most part difficult to obtain altogether for a pure tank build. I would expect to see Frost solidify some of the tanking talents, although the devs seem to be saying that they want almost any spec to be a viable tank when needed (read viable 5-man MT, situational raid OT).

As for the quests, even if they're getting tweaked still, the starting chain is VERY impressive as far as lore and originality. There's still some old chestnuts (kill X number of scarlet dudes, bring me Y number of skulls), but interspersed throughout are some interesting mechanics. The chain where you get your Deathsteed is currently full of win, IMO.

I want to know what I'm going to need for preBc and BC herbs and other items I'm going to need for inscriptions... if any of you are going to try that route out. I would really REALLY like to know so I can get more of what I'll need since things are gonna skyrocket in pricing once released.

There's one site out there, can't remember the name, but the owner usually comes up with a "fastest grinding route" for a profession - I used hers for JCing before TBC. I would stock up generally on low-level herbs. It takes 5 herbs to make one vial of ink - figure at least one vial of ink per scroll/ability, and you're looking at quite a lot of herbage to grind up to 450.

New judgement system? That's the first I've heard of it. What is the new system?

And no worries, man your playstyle is normally holy anyway. You'll get round to Ret eventually.... are you? *puppy dog eyes Rogosh*

Post Re: Wrath Questions (Spoilers!)
The starting areas for Northrend have some new designs in store. First, unlike Hellfire Peninsula, with its beautiful, broad vistas of ... red ... Both Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord sport a very varied environment just in the zone. While this provides a visually interesting leveling area, it makes the zones feel cramped as you flit from town to beach to tundra rapidly.

The two zones' feels are very different, however. Fjord definitely has a celtic/norse feel to it, Borean Tundra seems a little more Anglo-Saxon/classic Warcraft feel (down to the dwarven riflemen firing en masse).

Quests are standard starting zone fare. Both have the same kind of "Welcome to the war" starter quest, and start branching out from there. Fjord's follow-ons seem a little easier to complete the kill X/Collect X type of objectives, due to better spawn and drop rates. Quest directions are mostly clear, with a few that will have you searching for a spawn point, or an entry to a zone. There is some interesting quets design and mechanics being displayed, however. One quest in the Fjord has you slog through an area packed with undead - no way you could solo through them all, but you're given a timed buff which gives you a Light aura which burns the undead and forces them away from you. (The DK chain has some even better quests, but that's another post).

Both areas introduce you to the Vrakyl very early on, as well as a glimpse at a full-size nerubian. The stories do have similar threads, but difference aspects to the lore. All in all, decent efforts so far. The leveling curve seems like it'll be about what it was in TBC, quests are giving anywhere from 10k to 20k XP, creature kills are about 800-900 xp each right now.

Oh, and don't jump in the water at Howling Fjord. There's nasties in there that bite. Hard.

Well, as for myself, I'm still trying to find Dalaran, the neutral city. There's just a gaping hole in the ground where it used to be. I find it kind of odd they would have chosen Dalaran to be the new capital city, considering it's history with the Horde.
Anyway, the expansion is far from complete, but I'll have to say its marvelous. I've found many bugs such as falling through the map alot, bugged critters, and my most recent... metamorphosis does not work while I'm wearing a ninja suit.
They ganked my shybreaker whip, I can speak to murlocs now, and am rejoicing at the ability to stuff lots more stuff in the bank.
As far as addons, !Swatter and I have tossed out everything but the basic Titan mods. /cry . However, they seem to be working just fine.
I'll try and post a few screenshots from time to time, but if I go too far, admin please feel free to snatch'em.

Just read about the new changes to the judgement system and I'm starting to think to not worry about even buying Warhammer Online now that I've read that. Only thing that's still drawing me to it is the Australian based servers, (sarcasm) but that's NOT a big thing anyway (sarcasm). If that drop the idea of them like they did with 4 cities and 4 classes I'll be majorly pissed off.

Really do take your time Rogosh, as much as I want to see that 51 point talent in action, Repentance actually able to stun enemies other than humanoids and Retribution Aura becoming a shite load more useful, screwing around with that system is going to take some time.

Cheers for this info guys it's going to decide what the hell I'll be playing for next year or two after my HSC is done, which is almost completed by the way. Only one term left of school and exams that's it.

Quijin demands that the following be answered or squishy tentacles monsters shall claim the overworld as their own!

Is the old king of stormwind chilling in the keep? comic revealed him so I'm wondering if they put him in.

Is dalaran up and running? if so can we get screenshots or maybe a little info on how it looks / what's all there? I wanna know who is running the place...maybe khadgar?

More to follow, work beckons.

This is Dalaran. And this is how you get there. It's very unfinished at the moment though so there's not much to see. I'm sure within a few weeks, it'll be a much more happening place! :)

I look into Stormwind later tonight.

I have a question about how feign death on hunters works with the potion sickness? Since it takes the hunter out of combat entirely, does FD dispel the potion sickness? Can anyone test this out?

Thanks Whispered :D
